This command monitors for the availability of the process whose name was entered as an argument when starting the script. As long as the process is detected, the condition is met and the commands in the loop are executed. In this case, the script waits 1 second and then repeats its action. When the process is no longer detected, the logger command writes a message to syslog. As you can see from this example, while offers an excellent method to check if something (such as a process or an IP address) still exists. If you combine it with the sleep command, you can start your script with while as a kind of daemon and perform a check repeatedly.
